The Data Management Plan (DMP) for AfroGAIN (Navigating the Frontiers of Governing Artificial Intelligence in Africa), led by Dr. Thompson Gyedu Kwarkye under the ROSETTA MSCA Fellowship, ensures that all research data generated from Ghana and South Africa are managed ethically, securely, and in accordance with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles.
The plan details how AfroGAIN will collect, store, anonymise, and preserve qualitative and quantitative data, including interviews, surveys, and policy documents, using secure platforms such as Zenodo, GitHub, and the AI Governance Observatory. It emphasises strict compliance with the GDPR and local data protection laws, applying rigorous anonymisation to safeguard sensitive and vulnerable participants, including LGBTQIA+ groups and minorities.
Co-funded by Lero, the European Commission, and the University of Galway, the project integrates open science practices, ethical oversight, and capacity-building partnerships with organisations like ACET. Overall, the DMP guarantees that AfroGAIN’s findings remain transparent, reusable, and beneficial for African AI governance research and policymaking.
